During shutdowns, Methanol Stills may require decontamination, and in some cases ‘de-scaling’. It is not uncommon for scale in the Stills and Reboilers. This is as a result of salts in the water phase that come with the Methanol.

CORE applies a multi-stage chemical cleaning programme to ‘decontaminate’ the stills. We also then remove hard scale with an acid solution. To protect the Reboilers and Stills, a final passivation wash is applied to prepare the equipment surfaces for return to service. This simple step can often prolong in-service runs. This is by delaying the formation of new scale on the heat transfer surfaces.

You can process the spent chemical solutions from each stage through a CORE Mobile Effluent Treatment Unit. This will produce clean water for direct discharge to the municipal sewer. You can dewater the small number of solids and then dispose of, usually via non-hazardous landfill.
