Gas Compression & Fractionation Section

The Demethaniser, Deethaniser, Depropaniser and Debutaniser can present issues for entry due to high benzene levels at shutdowns. Historically, this results in prolonged steaming, to drive off as much benzene as possible.

CORE can chemically decontaminate these columns using Vapour Phase technology. As a result, it  strips out benzene, and other light fractions during steaming. This significantly reduces steam-out timescale. Where there is experience of pyrophoric deposits, which are hazardous once dry, select areas of (e.g.) the De-propaniser bottoms and reboilers, circulation of an oxidising solution that can eliminate the pyrophoric potential of the deposits. Removal of the polymers is once the columns and reboilers reopen. The entire decontamination procedure can take less than 24-hours, providing significant time savings.

CORE’s technical team have also successfully decontaminated Cracked Gas Compressors, in-situ, to remove benzene emissions before opening.
